Inheritance Power of Attorney

Appoint a representative to deal with an estate on your behalf, with clearly limited powers.

Acting for an heir who is far away

Estates in the UAE can involve courts, banks and property offices, and heirs often live elsewhere. A Power of Attorney lets a representative follow the process for you.

Because the sums can be large, we recommend clear limits: what the representative may sign, receive, and agree. We write them in plain terms.

What you will need to start

  • Passport of the heir and, if relevant, Emirates ID
  • Death certificate and relationship documents, as the process requires
  • Details of the representative
  • Estate details: property, accounts, court file

What the document can cover

The powers are set to the task you actually need done. Anything not listed is not given.

  • Attending court or estate procedures
  • Collecting documents and certificates
  • Dealing with banks and property offices
  • Receiving the heir’s share, where you allow it
  • Signing agreements between heirs, only if listed

How the process works

  1. Review the estate. We look at the court file, property, accounts and relationship documents that apply.
  2. Set the limits. We agree what the representative may sign, receive and agree, and write it in plain terms.
  3. Draft and review. We prepare the document and send it to you for approval.
  4. Notarise. You sign before a notary public with original identity documents, or in your country if you are abroad.
  5. Translate, attest and deliver. We arrange any translation and attestation, then send the document to your representative.

What to check before you sign

  • The representative can be trusted with money
  • Limits on receiving and signing are written down
  • Estate and court references are correct
  • You have a plan to revoke the document at the end
