A Power of Attorney signed outside the UAE is normally notarised at home, authenticated by that country\u2019s foreign ministry, legalised by the UAE embassy there, and then attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) in the UAE. An apostille on its own is not enough, because the UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3d2f7ec elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3d2f7ec\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The usual chain<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d5eabec elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d5eabec\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol style=\"margin:0;padding-left:22px\"><li style=\"margin-bottom:12px\"><strong>Notarise at home.<\/strong> The Power of Attorney is signed before a notary in the country where you live.<\/li><li style=\"margin-bottom:12px\"><strong>Authenticate with the foreign ministry.<\/strong> The foreign ministry of that country, or the authority it designates, authenticates the notary\u2019s signature. In an Apostille country this is where the apostille is issued.<\/li><li style=\"margin-bottom:12px\"><strong>Legalise at the UAE embassy.<\/strong> The UAE embassy or consulate in that country legalises the document.<\/li><li style=\"margin-bottom:12px\"><strong>Attest at MOFAIC.<\/strong> The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation attests the document when it arrives in the UAE.<\/li><li style=\"margin-bottom:12px\"><strong>Translate into Arabic.<\/strong> If the document is not in Arabic, a certified translation is added so UAE offices can read it.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-41e1d94 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"41e1d94\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why an apostille alone is not enough<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5da3f2b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5da3f2b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>An apostille replaces the foreign ministry step between countries that are parties to the Apostille Convention. The UAE is not listed as a contracting party on the Hague Conference status table, last updated on 30 June 2026, so UAE authorities still expect the UAE embassy and MOFAIC steps.
